Step-by-Step Application Protocol
Recommended Treatment Duration:
4 to 8 Hours (Pink color retention)
Application Steps:
- Dissolve KMnO4 crystals completely in warm water in a plastic bucket (wear gloves & eye protection).
- Pour solution evenly across the water surface with high aeration.
- Water should turn light purple/pink. If color turns brown within 1 hour, organic load consumed the chemical; a second dose of 1-2 ppm may be needed.
- To stop oxidation, add Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) or Hydrogen Peroxide.
Safety Precaution:
Bypass biofilters in RAS/Biofloc! High KMnO4 kills nitrifying biofilter bacteria.
Chemical Neutralization:
Neutralize remaining purple color by adding 1-2 ppm Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) or Hydrogen Peroxide.
